When is it appropriate for a young skater to start using makeup when testing or competing?

Mothers need to use restraint when applying makeup. A little makeup can to be applied to young female skaters taking a testBoth ladies and men who are skating in a carnival, show, or similar performance, especially if it involves the use of spotlights, should carefully use theatrical makeup.

Generally some lipstick, a light blush to the cheeks and some eye shadow can enhance the appearance in preteens and older skaters.  Mascara should be avoided.

The old adage “less is more” applies to the application of makeup.
