My daughter's coach suggested she not wear underpants beneath her skating dress. Why is this important?

The suntan line of a skater's thigh needs to extend high enough to not be visible with "French Cut" style leotard or bottom of the skating outfit.

The skater’s underpants can frequently become visible by extending beyond the leotard or bottom of the skating outfit and is not covered by the attached skirt.

In either example, the clash of colors can be very distracting to the visual image the designer had in mind for the outfit.  Choreographers prefer the skating outfit to complement the skating and not be a distraction from it.
