Commonly Asked Figure Skating Questions  -

Should the music selected for a program depend on the individual's skating skills, age, a combination of both factors, and other factor(s)?

Entry-level skaters usually depend on the coach to assist in suggesting suitable music and choreographing the program.  The program length generally does not allow for two musical sections to be combined, but since most suitable musical selections exceed the allowable program length, editing skills are required produce a professional quality CD.

The age of the skater is extremely important in selecting the music and the outfit that the skate will wear. Both the music and costume MUST complement the skills of the skater and NEVER should become a distraction.

A coach of an elite level skater usually involves a choreographer at the stage of choosing the music so they may have an input as to the music's potential to compliment the skater's skills and personality.
