Commonly Asked Figure Skating Questions  -
What happens if the skater suffers an injury while skating their program?

The referee in a competition or the judge in charge at a test session would determine if the skater could continue after a brief period of rest or with draw the skater from the event or test session.

At qualifying competitions, a doctor, nurse, or paramedic is usually present to make a determination if the skater should be allowed to continue.

At open competitions and test sessions, common sense should prevail when there is a possibility that allowing the skater to continue will result in a greater injury occurring to the skater.

When in doubt, a paramedic should be called and they have the medical qualifications to determine if the skater is fit to continue skating or needs treatment.
