constitutes a fully rotated jump?
Jumps must takeoff from a portion of a circle and land on a continuation of the circle after completing the required number of rotations in the air. The exception is the Lutz jump which lands on a new circle that is tangent to the takeoff circle.
Pre-rotation when taking off or post-rotation after landing invalidates the requirement of performing the rotation in the air. A tolerance of a 1/4 revolution is allowed for the purpose of determining the base value of the jump, but judges will take a quality deduction in their Grade of Execution mark.
Frequently younger skaters will land sideways and hook the landing 1/4 revolution. Another common error is landing high on the toepick and a quick twisting motion makes it appear that the landing was fully rotated when in fact it was under-rotated a 1/2 rotation. Another common way skaters under rotate jumps occurs when the taappin foot for the toe loop jump is turned forward before leaving the ice. Skaters must correctly execute the toe loop jump. A toe waltz jump or toe axel instead of a toe loop or double toe loop is not acceptable in tests and competitions.
