At what point should I begin to consider arranging private lessons for my child?

The skater will provide positive signs that they enjoy skating and request to be allowed to practice more frequently. They may request their own pair of skates.

Ultimately a skater will begin to ask about ISI or USFS Basic Skating competitions. At this point a parent would find a weekly private lesson to be a valuable addition to taking one or two weekly group classes.

Entry level competition events allow a skater to demonstrate their skills on half ice and without music. Eventually skaters desire to compete in events that are skated on full ice to music of their choice.

A private coach will assist the skater in choosing music for their free skating program and choreographing a routine that meets the event requirements that matches the skater’s skill level.  Computer technology has made the process of editing a program and recording it on a CD a much less expensive process compared to when a sound studio was required to cut a 33.3 rpm record.
